I am not a fan of poetry – I have never seen the point of reading some sophisticated writings that requires me to use my under-utilised brain.
But when I read “If” by Rudyard Kipling, the fantastic piece of poetry blew my mind. For those who have yet to come across “If”, this is a quick link to Wikipedia.
We find that the stoicism described in “If” is a wonderful philosophy that insurance believer can ascribe to.
Stoicism teaches the development of self-control and fortitude as a means of overcoming destructive emotions; insurance is a financial mean of overcoming disastrous events which allows one to develop self-reliance.
The natural thing to do is to make amendments and make it an insurance-centric piece.
Of course, I am no Rudyard Kipling and this is definitely not a literary artwork.
Nevertheless, I hope you may enjoy it as much I did when I was crafting it.
Here it goes…
If you can keep your eyes on your future when all around
Are concerned about today.
If you can love your kinsmen when all men care for themselves,
But consider them in your plans.
If you can fear and not be paralysed by fear,
Or being lied about, don’t believe in lies,
Or being persuaded, don’t be fooled by persuasion,
And yet don’t be too arrogant, nor talk too clever.
If you can plan – and not make plans your master.
If you can think – and not let thoughts be inactivity.
If you can meet Illness and Accident,
And greet them with gusto.
If you can bear to face up with the hand
That you’ve been dealt with
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken.
And stoop and build’em up with insurance tools.
If you can talk with fear-mongers and stay within budget,
Or walk with naysayers – nor lose the common sense.
If neither accident nor illnesses can derail your plans.
If you count on your policies but not too much;
If you can fill your emptied account,
With a pocketful of insurance claims.
You are hereby properly insured.
And you are the man, my friend.
